In this design, the focal point is the treasure trove of private negotiation and jewelry, which takes center stage both in terms of space and concept. To reflect this, the designers have crafted a path that leads visitors from the outside, gradually immersing them in the natural power of rock stone walls. As they navigate around boulders, they encounter horizontal long window display cabinets nestled within wooden grille walls.
Due to fire protection requirements, wood veneer laminates were used to create the cabinets, while perforated aluminum panels were employed for the ceiling to address air conditioning needs. The ceiling, shaped through splicing, features fiber optic lights that create a starry effect, further enhancing the stone wall ambiance.
Covering a total area of 57 square meters, the design incorporates gradually climbing and narrowing long windows. Visitors eventually bypass a sharp corner of the stone house, pass through a tea room, and enter the treasure house to admire the jewelry collection.
One of the design's standout features is its interaction with the surrounding environment. To cater to external guests, the stone house features two gaps at the entrance and two cracks on the wall. At night, when the outside lights dim, these slits emit sharp beams of light, creating a captivating visual effect.
The project, which commenced in January 2019 and concluded in July 2019, was based in Beijing. The design team, led by Qingfan Zhang, overcame various challenges during the process. One such challenge was the uneven thickness of the customized stones, which posed a risk to the mall's floor. Through innovative thinking and collaboration, the designers devised a solution involving intensive cutting and removing pieces from the back to reduce the thickness.
Qingfan Zhang's design aims to restore the raw and original essence of nature that is often lost in modern mining and manufacturing processes. By incorporating rough textures and materials, the store space evokes a sense of connection with the natural world.
This exceptional design has garnered recognition and acclaim, including the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This award celebrates designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
